Jenna’s tiny Fin: a Happy Story

This is one of those stories that my close family and friends are not going to believe. They aren’t going to believe it because I exercised HUGE patience, found some restraint and dug down deep to find a sense of humor in it all, and once I did- it was all good.
So, long story short – Jenna emails me, she is the wife of a repeat customer. He’s been scoping FIN chain wallets on my ETSY store, and she is calling to see if we can make a special one for him as a birthday surprise. She’d like me to carve an Indian head figure on it, really plush it out and add a chain. OK, and I am good with making his birthday as a deadline.
I got busy right away, and knocked out a really nice Fin for him. Used birth year pennies, added a great chain, the color it is sweet – I finish it, take some pictures and I pack it up and send it to Jenna. Only to hear back 3 days later.
Jenna: the wallet is great, I love it, but it is too big
Me: The wallet is exactly the size of the one you looked at in my store, there is no other size
Jenna: the picture is deceiving, it looks smaller, this wallet is too big
Me: the dimensions are listed on ETSY, its exactly that size
Jenna: the wallet is too big, what can we do? Can you make a smaller one?
Me: This is a custom wallet, you want me to make another one, but smaller?
Jenna: Yes, this wallet is too big
Me: return that wallet and I’ll make a smaller version of it
DSC_4768

Too big!

So you get the idea – Jenna beat me into submission, she wore me down, she wanted a Tiny Fin wallet – and she was going to get it! Now the Fin is a funky shape and not an efficient use of space, so I wasn’t sure it’d work well, and besides I always make a prototype of any new design to troubleshoot stuff. Problem was I had to hustle, the birthday date was fast approaching. So I hustled, made two (a prototype and the real one) and made the date, shipped the new wallet (the RIGHT ) size and all was well.
And I injected a little Polynesian influence into this new chunky unit and…
I heard back  from Jenna:
You did such an amazing job on that wallet! Thank you so much for working with me  And being so flexible! You will most definitely Hear from me again (because he wants the belt next!) I’d be flattered to be named after the wallet. Will it be called indecisive or pain in the neck?  :) hopefully neither!   Thanks again! I will post a review after he opens it!  Jenna

Mark’s belt: A Happy Story

Mark is a repeat customer that I hear from every now and then.  I’ve made him a belt, a pocket wallet, maybe another thing or two, and now another belt. I’ll say it again and I’ll say it every time stuff like this happens – my customers are loyal and they rule!

“Steve,  The belt arrived yesterday, it came out truly amazing.

I attached a pic of the pocket wallet you did for me a few years ago. You suggested a deep deep dark chocolate brown that looks almost black. You said it would age better and you were 100% right.  Looks great, been using every day for the last three years or so.

Thanks for the great job on this new belt and the super fast turnaround. You defiantly have a life time customer.  Thinking of a belt for work next. The shit I  bought at Century 21 last year before has already started peeling and cracking.  Talk soon, thanks again  Mark.”

Thank you Mark, your support means alot as does your taking the time to let me know how happy you are.

Good news from Goose

Goose writes:
Steve, You have truly outdone yourself!  I picked up the new wallet and belt today and am very happy with how much fine detail is in every inch.  The added details of the pennies with my year of birth, the  combination of stamps, and the subtle color variations are  great details that really mean something to me!!   The wallet chain is unbelievable in the both the weight and quality.

Your eye for details have put this combo over the top.  I can’t put the right adjectives together to describe how much I love your work, but I hope you understand the intent.  You are a very gifted artist and I am very happy you do what you do!

Many thanks for everything!
I’ll definitely stay in touch and let you know how all of your pieces are aging!  I have worn your other wallet daily for seven years and it still looks new.  I clean my two belts and wallet occasionally with a little Fiebing’s saddle soap and then condition them with Ko-Cho-Line.  They still look and feel like new.  Most times I destroy wallets in 3-4 years.
It’s a testament to the quality of the materials and the work that you do!
Once again, thank you very much!
Goose
 ************** ************** ************** **************

Many of the folks I have done Leatherwork for over the 10+ years have returned to me multiple times.  I’ve gotten numerous (4+) requests from many of them, and I think its pretty cool and always humbling. Considering the strongest vote you have is with your wallet, I feel  damn fortunate.  I used to feel lucky, kind of like “wow, how did that happen!” After a few years, I realized (could admit to myself, is more like it) that I was doing something that people liked, and to stop apologizing for the different-ness, time and cost – and to basically, keep doing what I was doing. That was a revelatory moment, equal parts scary and liberating.

So my work has changed over the years and my customers have rolled with it. I’ve gotten more into color, super deep patterns, as opposed to carving, I’ve figured out how to make stuff more durable and still keep it real simple. Simple is good.

I was turned on to “Simplicity” by Alan Siegel, one of the founders of Siegel+Gale. Having breakfast with him one morning in the mid-1990’s at The Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center, while his driver waited outside, I realized that Simple didn’t mean dumb,  “no money” or downstream. I began to realize Simple was smart, and although I was too young at the time to fully absorb the lesson, I was given a clue.

Before I go too deep down the rabbit hole here, my point is that I have tried in most areas of my life, especially my creative work – to keep it Simple and to trust my muse – and well, so far keeping it Simple works for me.

So I translate Simple in my Leatherwork to mean: no unnecessary add-ons or embellishments, no zippers, I stick with slab construction, everything is glued, lined & stitched, all hardware is thoughtfully selected and in the case of rivets, I use washers. I use brass, a metal which develops great patina and personality and finally, I use great Leather. And in pursuing Simplicty I have had to muddle though unfathomable complexity.

But as I think I am getting closer, Simplicity slithers away, and I have to hunt harder!

Goose, is one of those wonderful people who came back for a third (or maybe fourth?) time for a set of EDC goods: wallet, fob, belt. And invited me to go to town, and so I did!

Mr. Crabs, the Butterfly Change Dish/ Valet by steveb leatherworks

DSC_5412 (1)   OK, leather fans, I have something for you to consider – the Front Door Key/Change Dish/ Valet. When you come in your front door – what do you do? Do you dump your keys, phone, sunglasses in a drawer, leave them on a table top, put ’em in a dish (my households solution) or some other inglorious nuisance of a spot that lacks panache?

The same can also be said of your “dressing spot/bureau/dresser” another catch-all of hard to wrangle or categorize stuff. The cure is a Valet!

BUY MR CRABS HERE<<<<

This Front Door Key/Change Dish/ Valet measures 6.75 long by 6.75″ (pretty square) . It’s 1″ deep and is perfectly sized for a few sets of keys, a wallets, glasses and phone – perfect for 1 persons junk, or on top of a bureau to hold the stuff you dump from your pockets or purse at the end of the day.
DSC_5418 (1)

The color overall is a great walnut complimented by a natural russet color, the materials are doubled up throughout – this is one heavy duty, deeply carved piece of leathercraft with a design I know you have NOT seen before!- this will be an heirloom you’ll pass down for generations, I shit thee not.
DSC_5446 (1)
I used #9 copper stake rivets as well brass Chicago screws – when hardware was required. The bottom is as nice as the top is…. with that said, thje bottom is insane, the result when swivel knife meets with veg tan with a dose of Rowans Creek on the rocks to make it happen ultra loose!

BUY MR CRABS HERE<<<<
The leather panel on the bottom was some of the toughest, nastiest most ornery 10oz (thick) veg tan, that I bought some years ago, hoping it’d tame itself and become workable. Well it did and this is the result -it is KILLER, really holds the patterns and impression wonderfully. Sometimes leather is like cigars, you need to let it rest before it shows its true nature. and this is the bottom mind you!

The outside “walls” of this unit are made of a beautiful chrome tan burgundy, lined on the inside with some beautiful Langlitz black cowhide (used for jackets) of impeccable quality. this sandwich is both glue and stitched.

If you need a bigger or deeper “dish”, I can make one – for a clubhouse or big hallway! just ask

I use oil dyes for my work, so the color mellows with age and takes on a great patina. This is a good looking unusual piece which will get you lots of comments and it is entirely hand made, by me, right here in the USA.

The Throne-istan Hand Tooled Toilet Seat by steveb leatherworks

REPEAT!@ : rant mode on: so the holidays are coming and the shopping season is revving up into high gear.

Now I know that many of the gifts we get for folks are “must haves – like droopy drawers”, but in the instances where you are buying a discretionary gift – please consider voting with your wallet for the American small business person and hand craftspeople who depend on your vote.

Support craftspeople not because you feel pity for them in their “David & Goliath” battle for your wallets attention in the shopping season,  but because you want to give a high quality, unique, handmade gift, that is made right here in the USA, by an American’s own two hand

Buying unique gifts this way does a lot of good for all involved and you can be assured, at least from me anyway, that you are getting my best effort and that I will work with you to insure you are happy – and most of all, that the recipient of the item I make, will be thrilled.

ok, that’s that – so anyway……..

The Throne-istan Hand Tooled Toilet Seat by steveb leatherworks

BUY IT HERE<<<<<<

The Throne-istan is a killer style trend just a waiting to happen. Be the first on your block, or in the world for that matter with a steveb leatherworks hand-tooled oak, toilet seat. This is the first one out of the shop and based on the amount of work (and mess), they will be a limited edition offering.

Now to be specific – the seat itself is not tooled (I’ve been told by my Litigation and Leagality dept, that’d be gross) – but the seat lid has a hand tooled, leather, inlaid inset. I used a router to relieve the top of the seat so the double thick 10oz. leather panel lays flush with the lid top. This is one thick and heavy leather construction – you can feel it in the lid.. With the panel laying flush, i made a leather bezel that is both glued and nailed (using upholstery nails).
BUY IT HERE<<<<<<
The colors on this seat are cool and kooky, they shift chameleon like depending on the color and nature of the light that hits it. If you have a toilet near a window – this would be the spot to put this piece of art – with light hitting this lid – it is insane- truly one of a kind coloration. I don’t know if I could duplicate it if I wanted to. There is a lot going on, with fades, masks, etc.

The stamping style I invented is something that you just won’t see anywhere else. I have a distinctive style that uses basic and traditional Western/Sheridan Style carving in unusual and unique ways. It riffs off of Western, dabbles with native American arts, Polynesian design and has a splash of biker thrown in for durability in construction and clarity of purpose.
BUY IT HERE<<<<<<
Now with all that said, if you wanted a custom Throne-istan: let me know.

The Thunders Redux – a 1.75″ wide custom leather belt by SteveB Leatherworks

DSC_9622 DSC_9623 DSC_9625

>>>>>>>>>BUY IT HERE<<<<<<<<<

The Thunders Redux is a custom, one-off belt, ready to be tailored to your waist measurements – around the brass buckle pictured. This belt will accommodate up to a 40″ measurement – using the diagram I have provided. I will tailor the belt to your size, before it is shipped to you.

Folks wonder how I come up with some of the names for my goods. Really, I have no clue, they just come to me. Part of my approach might be tipping my hat to the unnecessary seriousness and drama that enter our lives from every nook and cranny. I try to be a little silly, I suppose in reaction to it all. I will say this about the Thunders redux though – I was listening to Johnny Thunders last album, So Alone when I was making it… so maybe I channeled a little Walter Lure into its construction.

The Thunders Redux has a wild mahogany & burgundy kind of coloration. It is very cool, very different and kind of subtle in a uniquely obvious way- it also has my usual black edge and white thread..this is a heavy duty belt, made from 12oz Domestically tanned leather.!

>>>>>>>>>BUY IT HERE<<<<<<<<<

The Thunders Redux has a cool keeper, that holds the tip of the belt (the billet) that has matching white thread and the same unique, compelling coloration.

This belt has been cut from the very best domestically made 12oz (very thick), vegetable tanned leather. The belt is lined with mission grain pigskin and stitched with domestically sourced nylon thread, giving it a resilience to stretching, sweating and wear. I use only the best dyes, hardware and threads – and a ton of information is available on my web site.

>>>>>>>>>BUY IT HERE<<<<<<<<<

I started a new thing with the Thunders Redux, I sandwich a strip of vinyl – that doesn’t stretch – ever – and never loses its integrity – in the center of the belt, between the veg tan and the mission grain pigskin. This belt will never stretch, it will never deform! Want to bet my peers begin introducing this “new” innovation – ha! Honestly, I got the sandwich idea from the way luggage is constructed. Adding this step adds some complexity in assembling and stitching, but its worth it, this belt will be bullet proof.

I use Fiebings oil dyes for my work, so the color mellows with age and takes on a great patina. This is a good looking piece which will get you lots of comments and it is entirely hand made, by me, right here in the USA.

I have happy customers, please take a look:

The Zion – a beautiful & durable case for paper maps & other stuff from SteveB Leatherworks

DSC_5822 DSC_5823 DSC_5831 DSC_5844 DSC_5847This is a good gift for the guy or gal who needs “not a thing” and travels on a bike, or drives and digs paper maps. The SteveB map case is good looking unit, perfect for the saddlebag, under your car seat, in the door pouch, etc. You can put maps, a GPS (egads), a pad a few hi-liters, a lighter in it, like I do – and it is super duper really neato , in a utilitarian manner, of course.

Perfect (if i may dare say), its measurements are :(closed) 4.5 x 10 x 1.5

BUY IT HERE<<<

This unit is made from gorgeous and tough chrome-tanned leather, the very same leather that Langlitz jackets are made from (go look up Langlitz if ya don’t git it!). This is one tough case that will hold just the right amount of map-age you’ll ever need on a road trip and you can even stuff other stuff in it too, honest!

The case is fully lined with a heavyweight deerskin, the leather is heavier than I am accustomed to using and its, glued and stitched AND riveted with burr & stake rivets. It is an overkill unit and even the snaps are doubled up and tight brass Line24 snaps.

The deerskin lining came from a fellow leather-crafters shop. This gentleman was killed on his bike by a teenage texter – let that be a warning to us.  I helped his widow sort through and find homes for some of his equipment (am still doing that)… and out of 100+ pieces of quality leather he had squirreled away for future use, this was the ONLY piece that survived basement storage – the rest was moldy and basically hazardous – what a shame.

So – i thought to myself, what the hell am i going to do with this heavy deerskin? How could i best pay homage to this 2-wheel, leathercrafting peer of mine? How could i accord him ongoing respect and even better – let his spirit tag along on great 2-wheel adventures? I KNOW my map cases travel far and wide and thought this would be the perfect medium for spirit and karmic transportation.
BUY IT HERE<<<
So – if you are lucky enough to purchase one of these map cases – i expect you to use it and ride with it on your bike – you’ll have a biker spirit, a good man, a family guy and a leathercrafter with you – if that’s not cool, pass on the bag – i want these to go to real riders and travelers. I’ve even put a map in it to get you started…….

And just saying…I have tried to kill an early prototype of this bag design and after 6 years, it continues to take a good licking in the tourpak and truck in the off season.

The Split – a very custom, one-off, Bass or Guitar Strap

I was trying to get a type of Fender, tobacco sunburst look and I think I came close – and the color looks even better in person. I’ve top coated this sucker pretty seriously, so it comes to you with a nice shine that I hope you’ll scuff up and wear off!
DSC_3978

Its made of tough 8-10oz veg tan leather that I’ve lined with black “jacket” leather – the same thick stuff that Langlitz uses – tough and soft. Ive stitched it on my new machine with 277 white thread and the rear strap has a beautiful buckle with a cool set of keepers attached that i can mount to the spot that makes the most sense, given your specific measurements – meaning – this strap will be tailored to you. I am going to put it together with the pieces you see here  – so you can be sure I will accommodate your range of frequently used lengths. If you use a wireless rig, we can figure out how best to secure it for you…
DSC_3972

The brass buckle is a solidly made sweetie that will patina up just right, the same stuff that Dooney & Bouke (fancy handbag makers) uses!

The front strap (thick part that goes from the front of your instrument to over your shoulder ) measures 3″ wide x 45″ long. I broke it into two pieces, one part is stitched with white thread, the other (on your back) is not. stitched. The rear strap measures 1″ wide by 24″ long.  The contrast stands out.

This strap is really a beauty, it’ll last lifetimes and I can set if up with strap locks if that your thing – just send them to me:  I don’t stock them, there are simply too many types. I can also punch holes in it, but i wont do that until you tell me where you want them…, its why i show the strap in pieces.

This is the shite for a bass player, but since i don’t discriminate, I’d say it it’ll also kick butt for a 6-stringer too!

The Blue Sky Clipboard – something special from SteveB Leatherworks

steveb.11.3.14 1 steveb.11.3.14 2 steveb.11.3.14 3

Meet the Blue Sky clipboard!

I start with a good quality, standard size 9×12″ clipboard. Its then wrapped in two pieces of leather – a piece of 10-12oz vegetable tan leather on the bottom and a, piece of 6oz vegetable tan leather on top (the writing surface).

The top of the board is absolutely naked – and its veg tan leather, so it will get marked and scarred up from use. The back is carved, top coated and it feels good to the hand and the two pieces of leather wrapped around this weight clipboard feels just right.

The back of the clipboard has a great sun design carved into its surface. I like how this clipboard looks and feels, it’s very cool – it’s very different. I hope you like it too.

I glued the bejeez out of all the pieces and stitched the circumference with white 277 thread – total overkill – typical for me. Glue would have been more than sufficient and alot easier.

If you know a person whose a clipboarder, this is the shnizz – just for them. Far classier than the plastic POS they’ve been carrying, I mean , this is really something

Looking for a cool gift idea? Something that wont break the bank. but will add a bit of panache to someones overall presentation?
This is a unique, one of a kind belt/key fob. You can attach wallet chains, key rings or other stuff to it, it’s a nice change from the “norm”.
The color is a burgundy, maroon deal with a black edge and white thread.

The hardware is brass – a traditional type of hook and trigger design – a lot of folks simply love these types of clasps for keys. and so – here they are! Its an old school design for sure – lots of “supers” have ’em. These good ones have a swivel.

I’ve been working on coming up with a variety of designs for fobs and this is the 5th generation. I’ve only made a few of these, so if you like ’em, come and get ’em – I won’t make this design again – this is the extent of the hardware I’ve got.

The year of the penny is- > 1977

BUY IT HERE<

Each of these Fobs has a one of a kind domed old copper penny , something that you will not see anywhere else. The attachment for the brass key clip is a doubled up piece of chrome tan leather and mission grain pigskin that has been glued and stitched together with a simple purple thread. – very subtle, very strong.

These fobs are lined on the side that faces your belt. the rear strap is natural veg tan that wont mark or mar your pants – these stinkers will last a lifetime and look perfect as they age., This is a nice looking accessory for your belt – different enough to be noticed, cool enough to be distinctive.

They are tight to your belt, things only do one thing over time… loosen up.. so i figure that a bit tight in the beginning means you’ll have it a good long time. so – no bitching that its tight – i know.

I also make knife and tool sheaths from heavy weight vegetable tanned cowhide. I’ve made guitar straps, leashes and wristbands – all with a different look and design as your commonly used to seeing. If you’re looking for something you don’t see, ask. I am always up for a challenge, within reason.

The Long Brown One: steveb leatherworks belt fob

DSC_5334Warning: rant mode on: so the holidays are coming and the shopping season is revving up into high gear.

Now I know that many of the gifts we get for folks are “must haves – like droopy drawers”, but in the instances where you are buying a discretionary gift – please consider voting with your wallet for the American small business person and hand craftspeople who depend on your vote.

Support craftspeople not because you feel pity for them in their “David & Goliath” battle for your wallets attention in the shopping season,  but because you want to give a high quality, unique, handmade gift, that is made right here in the USA, by an American’s own two hands
DSC_5332Buying unique gifts this way does a lot of good for all involved and you can be assured, at least from me anyway, that you are getting my best effort and that I will work with you to insure you are happy – and most of all, that the recipient of the item I make, will be thrilled.

Screw Walmart and the “made somewhere else” shit we’ve been taught to buy and accept. Support American, support the crafts and support, the talented people that will bust their ass to make sure you are happy, and appreciate the hell out of your support.

ok, that’s that – so anyway……..

The Wampus – a leather belt ready for your waist

2014-08-04 at 01-37-18

For you,  a custom, one-off belt, ready to be tailored to your waist measurements – around the brass buckle pictured. Using the diagram I have provided. you give me a measurement and I will tailor the belt to your size, before it is shipped to you….

The Wampus has a wild mahogany and golden brown kind of coloration. It is very cool, very different and kind of subtle in a uniquely obvious way- it also has my usual black edge and white thread..this is a heavy duty belt, made from 12oz Domestically tanned leather.!

The Wampus has a brass keeper, that holds the tip of the belt (the billet).
2014-08-04 at 01-38-57

This year I started sandwiching a strip of vinyl – that doesn’t stretch – ever – and never loses its integrity – in the center of the belt, between the veg tan and the mission grain pigskin on the first 8″ of the belt. The billet on belt is the part that takes the real beating and mine will will never stretch, it will never deform! Want to bet my peers begin introducing this “new” innovation – ha! Honestly, I got the sandwich idea from the way luggage is constructed. it adds some complexity in assembling and stitching, but its worth it, this belt will be bullet proof.

DETAILS of this belt:
The Wampus is 15″ wide, the buckle is solid brass. OR – I can use your own buckle if it will accept a thick 1.75″ belt billet… I attach the buckle with Chicago screws so if you ever want to change up the buckle on your own, you’ll be able to. I have to say – the buckle that I am including is really nice – the same stuff that a few fancy pants hand bag makers use, – so you might just want to leave it be.

I don’t generally make dress belts, this is a first.
You suit wearing warriors – take note.

The Fancy Pants is black. It is very cool, very different and kind of subtle in a uniquely obvious way- it also has my usual white thread..this is a heavy duty belt, made from 10oz domestically tanned leather.

I’ve been a suit and tie guy and let me tell you, it sucks. Why does it suck? Well, it feels like you are wearing a costume – and who the hel2014-07-19 at 23-15-59  l wants to play Halloween year round? Well, this belt helps you feel a little less clownish and a little more connected to the real you…. kind of like having a blade in your pocket… same kind of deal.

If I have to explain it further, well….. I aint! Ya get it or not.

This belt has been cut from the very best domestically made 10oz , vegetable tanned leather. The belt is lined with mission grain pigskin and stitched with domestically sourced nylon thread, giving it a resilience to stretching, sweating and wear. DETAILS of this belt:

The Fancy Pants is 1″ wide, the buckle is nickel plated brass – very high quality – the same hardware than Dooney & Bourke uses.

I attach the buckle with Chicago screws so if you ever want to change up the buckle on your own, you’ll be able to.

Red Sunburst Fin – mens chain wallet by steveb leatherworks

This beauty of a chain wallet has a great coloration – a warm sunburst color – like a fine guitar… and is set up with a cool brass chain and lobster claw clasp. The inside is lined with quality pigskin, complimented with patch pockets.

DSC_6165 copy

I fabricate a few styles of wallets: the Fin – the unique shape is a riff off a wallet designed by the Japanese artist Silversmith Fin.

I’ve been making the Fin for as long as I’ve been offering my work, and the shape remains, distinctive, intersting and a conversation starter, no matter where you pull it out.

I am blessed to have happy customers that just keep on coming back, please take a look at what they have to say:

The Typhoon Fin Wallet w/ Chain & Clasp from steveb leatherworks

DSC_2739

The Typhoon is a Fin wallet with a great, bold, strong Polynesian influenced design carved as decoration. Some of my wallets come “pre-partnered” up with a chain – – and the Typhoon is one of those.
DSC_2769
As usual per my habit, this piece of leatherwork has a black edge and white top thread. .. a unique and defining characteristic of my work. The color is this off the hook mix up of mahogany, brown, maroon and red – its starting off dark, but over time it’ll mellow and fade a bit, to a beautiful patina!
DSC_2773
This Fin wallet measures 6 long and 4″ at its widest point. There are 2 stitched patch pockets made of pigskin in the Squire, with royal purple thread, that can handle most of what you need to carry. What makes it super – it has a credit card quick draw pocket like the long-bone wallets I’ve been making – something different -smart.
DSC_2776
I installed an aged brass grommet and a jump ring, and it comes with a beautiful, Japanese sourced chain, its a solid brass chain, really cool greenish cast – nice heavy feel. The clasp is a nice solid brass unit. The wallet is lined with home tanned deerskin sourced from a multi-purchase customer- Boomer.
DSC_2787
The design on this wallet is really different – I don’t know of anyone else using Polynesian design as their influence in leatherwork, so you could say, I am breaking ground here. Straight up, I’d like to thank Matt Ross (Kamaio) and Bong_Tatau for fueling the fire – and for heaping helpings of help, artwork, attention and inspiration.
DSC_2784

I use Fiebings oil dyes for my work, so the color mellows with age . This is a good looking piece of handmade leatherwork which will get you lots of comments and it is entirely hand made, by me, right here in the USA.

I also make knife and tool sheaths from heavy weight vegetable tanned cowhide. I’ve made guitar straps, leashes and wristbands – all with a different look and design as your commonly used to seeing. If you’re looking for something you don’t see, ask. I am always up for a challenge, within reason.

the Serene Dream Change Dish & Valet by steveb leatherworks

When you come in your front door – what do you do?

Do you dump your keys, phone, sunglasses in a drawer, leave them on a table top, put ’em in a dish (my households solution) or some other inglorious nuisance of a spot that lacks panache?
serene dream3

The same can also be said of your “dressing spot/bureau/dresser” another catch-all of hard to wrangle or categorize stuff. The cure is a Valet!

BUY THE SERENE DREAM HERE<<<
This Front Door Key/Change Dish/ Valet measures 6.75 long by 6.75″ (square) . It’s 1″ deep and is perfectly sized for a few sets of keys, a wallet, glasses and phone – perfect for 1 persons junk, or on top of a bureau to hold the stuff you dump from your pockets or purse at the end of the day.

The color overall is a great kooky brown, red maroon, deep red, oxblood, complimented by a natural russet color, the materials are doubled up throughout – this is one heavy duty, deeply carved piece of leathercraft with a design that I’ve riffed off from Japanese wood carvings, I know you have NOT seen before!- this will be an heirloom you’ll pass down for generations, I shit thee not.

BUY THE SERENE DREAM HERE<<<

serene dream2
I used #9 copper stake rivets as well brass Chicago screws – when hardware was required. The bottom is as nice as the top is…. with that said, thje bottom is insane, the result when swivel knife meets with veg tan with a dose of Rowans Creek on the rocks to make it happen ultra loose!

I also make knife and tool sheaths from heavy weight vegetable tanned cowhide. I’ve made guitar straps, leashes and wristbands – all with a different look and design as your commonly used to seeing. If you’re looking for something you don’t see, ask. I am always up for a challenge, within reason.

I have happy customers, please take a look:
